Welcome

We here at Ironwood Studio would love to thank you for taking the time to stop by and see us! Not only are we students, but a community of artists. Here we have the opportunity to come together creatively and share our ideas with one another, and now with you as well. So, thank you again. Feel free to browse the blog, as it will have a little bit of all of us.

Gotta make the tiles......

Beverly watches while Sue 'paints' on some tiles, while Steve is busy carving out a flower. The tiles keep stacking up!

What are they working on?

Clay is working on his latest intricate wall art piece, Thelma's throwing oversized mugs on the wheel, Holly is using a sgraffito technique on a plate, another student hand sculpted and hollowed out this adorable little puppy with a toy in it's mouth, and Toni is setting up her whimsical porcelain house sculpture for a photo shoot.

Think in 3-dimensions...

Say 'hi' to our new 3-D instructor, Beth Shook. Most recently she was an instructor at Mesa Community College. In the 16 years that she was there, she taught 2-D and 3-D design, color theory, ceramics and glaze application classes. She obtained her MFA from ASU, investigating the drawn line, image and the tactile qualities of clay during her graduate studies. She is a working artist, having exhibited in regional, national and international shows. Practical Art in downtown Phoenix carries some of her functional work. Another wonderful addition to our awesome teaching staff!  www.bethshookart.com

He's not strange....

A big welcome to our new pottery instructor - Greg Strange! I caught him helping a student at the wheel on Saturday during our monthly potluck lunch. I heard that his class is packed - so welcome - we're glad you're here.
